We're all about the hero in New York City, but when it's this cold out, and with the threat of snow this weekend, we're not so psyched about a cold sandwich.

And, apparently, neither is Alidoro.

After decades of adamantly refusing to sway from their beliefs that 'the only good Italian hero is a cold Italian hero,' Alidoro is now offering ten hot heroes at their midtown location.

After 30 years of business, Alidoro, which was formerly Melampo, is offering ten hot Italian heroes due to Walter Momente's (a partner in the sandwich venture) hot-hero techniques.

The sandwiches will be made in a TurboChef Tornado, an oven that simultaneously uses microwave heat and radiant heat to cook both the inside and the outside of the sandwich quickly without altering the quality of the ingredients.

Contrary to a panini press, this method will brown the sandwich without squishing the sandwich in the hopes that by grilling the outside, the interior will warm as well.

The hot heroes include their sandwiches like "La Porchetta," which comes with porchetta, provolone, sweet peppers, and arugula; and their "Pinocchio," with prosciutto, sopressata, fresh mozzarella, sweet roasted peppers, and olive paste.

Check out some of their incredible hot sandwiches below.

grubstreet After several decades of standing by the conviction that the only good Italian hero is a cold Italian hero — not to mention surviving the pressed-panini craze of the early '00s — the superb sandwich artists at @alidoronyc have reconsidered their position. For the first time in the 30-year history of the shop (formerly known as Melampo), partner Walter Momente has gone electric and unveiled ten new hot heros at the midtown branch only. This is the Fratelli d’Italia: porchetta, basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, hot peppers, sweet peppers, and arugula. 📷: @melissa_hom

alidoronyc In the 30 years of ALIDORO’s history, one thing has remained unchanged…our sandwiches have never been heated. In doing so, we were able to best present the truly authentic and raw quality of our Italian ingredients. Now, we have decided to spread our ‘wings’ and after many months of mad science baking, melting, crisping and sauteing, we are proudly announcing a newly curated menu to offer our signature sandwiches HOT🔥🔥🔥. To the loyalists…nothing changes. All of our regular cold sandwiches will still be available. There will only be two differences: First, the new menu will specify which sandwiches are recommended hot as well (the others should always be left cold). Second, we will be offering a new menu of ‘HOT SANDWICH SPECIALS’ that are being showcased for the first time today. We are committed to making this as exciting and enjoyable to you as it is to us, so please let us know what you think! Ready, set, GO...🚦🏁 🎉
