This City's Seriously Glorious: 7 Absolutely Best Free Things to Do This February in NYC

February is halfway over, but that doesn't mean you can't jam out to some free events to finish off this freezing cold month, right?

No, contrary to popular belief, the summer is not the only time of year when New York City offers free activities. In fact, there are lots of free activities to get the month going in February, too.

Browsing all of NYC's free February events warms our hearts. It warms our hearts so much, it almost makes us forget that there's a dismal winter happening outside.

So check it out, NYC. There are free book openings, science nerd gatherings, comedy shows, and concerts.

There's a lot happening in this glorious city in the rest of February, that you don't have to pay a dime for. Read on to find out what they are.

1. Monday Movie Madness at The Way Station (638 Washington Avenue - Brooklyn)

moshuadaniel The only thing making this #pbr better is the #drwho themed bar I'm enjoying it in @pabstblueribbon #thewaystation

Love Broadway musicals that have been adopted to the big screen? The Way Station does too. They've even taken that love to the next level to host Monday Movie Madness throughout the month of February.

On Monday, February 22nd, they'll be hosting the last installment of this February Movie Madness, and you're right in time to catch it.

They haven't announced what movie they're screening yet, but once they do it'll be right here.

They've also got game board night at 9 p.m., also totally free. Save your bills and get out to The Way Station for some fun, free evenings the next Monday you can.

Do you like Jake Gyllenhaal? Yeah, so do we. He's super chill and famous.

Well, he'll be alongside Jamie Bernstein, David Denby, and John Mauceri in the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side.

The New Yorker essayist Adam Gopnik will host the evening, and all these people will discuss the enchantingly New York story of Leonard Bernstein's ascension to fame in the New York Philharmonic.

It's happening on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. and it's super free. All you have to do to be within proximity of Jake Gyllenhaal is show up.

3. Bonnie McFarlane and Jim Gaffigan at The Strand (828 Broadway)

Okay, so this event isn't necessarily free, per say, but all you have to do to get into the event is buy a copy of Bonnie McFarlane's You're Better Than Me.

Seeing as this event is the opening of McFarlane's book, you could do worse than purchsaing her book to get into the event. Plus, seeing McFarlane and Jim Gaffigan's verbal sparring is definitely worth the purchase of the book.

Okay, if you really don't want to buy the book (we don't get why?) you just have to buy a $15 gift card to The Strand to get into the event. That's practically free, too, because you'll get every dollar of that $15 back in books.

Anyway, come listen to Bonnie McFarlane discuss her new book with fellow comedian Jim Gaffigan at The Strand in the Rare Book Room on the third floor on February 23rd from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
