Last Gasp for Summertime: 8 Most Incredible Things Going Down This Weekend in NYC

Summer is, unfortunately, nearing its end, and most people are heading out to cooler spots in escape of the peak heat.

City streets seem to be a little less crowded as people jet off in the hopes of postponing any and all responsibility until the fall.

Taking a vacation is a natural escape at this time of year, but have you tried a staycation?

If you've stuck around and decided against the Hampton's escape, there's a lot in store for you this weekend.

Starting bright and early this evening (is that a thing? Let's make it a thing), this weekend is packed with incredible events you can't miss.

Thursday, August 4th

1. HOOCH Happy Hour Boat Party

Boozin’ on a boat, what could be better? We’re partnering up with our friends at HOOCH to kick off the weekend in style with a Happy Hour Boat Party on August 4th.

The best part: all you have to do to get onto this bangin’ boat is be a verified HOOCH member. Well, you should also RSVP right here.

HOOCH is for the (drunk) adventurer in us all. If you sign up today, using the invite code “spoiled” you get your first month with HOOCH for only $1. That dollar will get you 30+ free drinks from HOOCH as they take you around the city discovering your new favorite cocktail spots.

And that’s all you have to do. Sound sweet? That’s because it is. Download the HOOCH app right here, register for the event here and we’ll see you out on the Hudson.

Friday, August 5th

2. DAYBREAKER Boat Party

This Friday DAYBREAKER is taking their parties to a whole new level – and to the high seas.

This time they're paying homage to one of the most classic songs of all time and an epically zany historic era. They’re taking it back to 1960’s Britain with a Yellow Submarine party on the Hornblower Infinity for what will surely be the most unforgettable and whimsical morning of your summer.

You’ll dance the morning away, enjoy live DJs and dance performances, as well as free Califia Farms Cold Brew and breakfast goodies.

And best of all? Take in some killer views of a stunning Manhattan morning. Get your tickets right here.

3. Coney Island Firework Party

This is the best kind of reason to head down to the boardwalk.

The party aspect of this event starts up at the Madison Square Tavern, where you’ll be given a pair of LED headphones that’ll allow you to tune in to one of two different music channels.

From there you’ll groove and jam with your fellow party goers down to the Coney Island boardwalk as a part of one of the coolest silent parties around. Tickets to this event are limited, so be sure to grab them here now if you want to get in on the fun.

If you’re not down to party but still want to get in on the firework action, nobody’s gonna stop you. Just head down to the Coney Island boardwalk and watch the magic happen. Fireworks start at 9:30 p/m, don’t be late! You can find more info about the event here.

4. Pokemon Go event at Turnstyle

If you're a Pokemon Go enthusiast, you seriously should not be missing this event.

TurnStyle is teaming up with Geekscape's Jonathan London to bring Pokemon to life in the New York City streets. The Pokemon experience will feature giveaways, music, and discounts from TurnStyle's retailers and restaurants.

Players who show up to the event will get to meet new people, exchange tips and tricks, and improve their skills while learning from the experts.

Oh, the big thing: they're going to have 20 limited-edition Pokemon cards from the 90s available for purchase, and there's no way mom and dad are throwing them in the trash THIS time.

Saturday

5. Summer Streets

NYC is closing 7 miles of Park Avenue to Lafayette Street to cars so that city dwellers have the opportunity to play, run, walk, dance, and bike carefree.

You can expect the place to be packed with food, drinks, and activities at every corner. But really, there's even a rock climbing wall.

The event is held between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. until August 20th. Find out more at their official page.

6. Potter Con

Harry Potter fans are livin’ it up this summer. Pottercon is a day filled with themed day drinks and meeting your new favorite witches and wizards while bonding over your love for all things Harry Potter.

If you’re still iffy about what Hogwarts house you’re in, take part in the live sorting ceremony. Or if you decided to roll up to this event in your best wizarding gear, join the costume contest for a chance at fame (and maybe fortune).

If you haven’t read the latest piece of the Harry Potter series, Cursed Child, you’d better plug up your ears, because we’re sure it’s all anyone will be talking about at this magical event.

Tickets are available here. Make sure you get enough for you and the rest of your Hogwarts squad.

7. Bed Stuy Music Festival

donseamoss
