Water towers are one of the things many New Yorkers expect to be atop our roofs.
They're ubiquitous with the New York City skyline images that don't toot skyscrapers, but rather our residential neighborhoods, mainly in the outer boroughs.
But in Manhattan and some other areas, water towers don't look like water towers.
Many were enclosed in rooftop structures during the construction of many Upper East Side buildings before the 1940's.
Now, there's a UES penthouse that's invaded the above water tower structure, and it doesn't look like how you might expect.
Owners Lili and Lee Siegelson contributed to the design by Olson Kundig Architects, which significantly expanded their 17th floor unit up to the "18th floor."

Furthermore, the above outdoor space is surrounded by a lush rooftop garden featuring-- what else --an outdoor shower!
