Baby, it's cold outside. So you don't want to leave your bed. All you really want to do is hole up in your blankets, drink hot chocolate, and watch Netflix.

However contrary to your own desires, you're not a bear. You're not equipped to tuck yourself into bed for the cold months and never emerge. You can't hibernate.

So, which wintertime bars are tolerable? Well, hopefully the ones that, when you step inside, you're immediately washed over with soothing warmth. 

Yes, we're talking about the bars with fireplaces. When a New York City bar has a fireplace, it suddenly makes hitting the town with a date or with your crew so much more bearable when it's frigid outside.

So which NYC bars with fireplaces do we recommend? Read on to find out.

1. Shoolbred's (197 2nd Avenue)

Want some mulled cider and a soothing hot toddy? How about sipping these steaming winter beverages will sitting beside a winter fireplace?

We honestly feel like there's nothing better to do on a frigid winter evening or afternoon than getting to Shoolbred's and sitting by the fireplace.

They've also got a pretty dope happy hour deal, with two-for-one well drinks. Shoolbred's is a lovely little Scottish-pub-away-from-Scotland that makes the usually onerous task of going out in the winter quite pleasant.

2. Molly's (287 3rd Avenue)

Molly's isn't just great for an alcoholic beverage or two; it's also excellent for fireside wintertime feasts.

They've got a delicious shepherd's pie, some really excellent fish and chips, and our favorite bangers and mash, lamb stew, and Cajun chicken salad in the whole city.

This spot is definitely one of our go-to joints for wintertime comfort food and of course that superb fireside warmth. It's an entirely authentic Irish pub, and a great spot to toss back some Guinness while yelling "Slàinte!"

They've also got some really cozy booths, which, coupled by the fireplace ambiance, make for a really great date locale.

3. Harlem Public (3612 Broadway)

The avocado fries at Harlem Public will make believers out of anyone; even people who aren't usually about avocado (do these people exist?). They've also got these famous peanut butter burgers that are absolutely to die for. Really, we mean it. It'll be one of the best burgers you've ever had.

What we're really all about though, is that fireplace.

In addition to Harlem Public's dopest aspect, the peanut butter burger - uh, we mean, their fireplace, they've also got an excellent beer list, with some extremely tasty craft beers for sale. They've also got a pretty great date ambiance.

All-in-all, Harlem Public is definitely a must-visit wintertime bar.

4. Lexington Bar and Books (1020 Lexington Avenue)

Yes, they really have books at Lexington Bar and Books. They've also got extremely excellent scotch.

The music they jam to is mostly jazz and 60s, which is pretty perfect for wintertime chilling. Plus, our favorite part about this bar is that you don't have to yell for your friends to hear you talk.

You can also smoke cigars inside, which is rare and completely adds to the ambiance. Really, it's one of the only places in the city you can legally smoke inside. It's also got a speakeasy-like vibe, and might make you feel like you've been transported back in time to 1920s Paris.

They also give you a free slice of cake and a sparkler on your birthday, which never hurts.

5. Art Bar (52 8th Avenue)

This divey, dark bar is a lovely spot to inebriate yourself in the winter. The walls are lined with art and mirrors, and the entire spot is cozy, lit with cognac lighting and filled with antique chandeliers and sofas.

We're sure you're not surprised to hear the place is packed with art. It is called Art Bar after all. You may, however, be surprised to hear that they've got delicious drunk food; like mozzarella sticks, curly fries, and one of the most delicious veggie burgers in the city.

It's also lined with couches and of course that stellar fireplace scene we're all about. They also have your classic tables and booths, too.

We're also very into the vibe in their back room, and you can roll up with a crew of 10 - 20 people to chill here. They don't take reservations, but they do take requests. If you call earlier that day and let them know you plan on rolling in, they'll reserve it for you.

6. Black Mountain Wine House (415 Union Street - Brooklyn)

This place is seriously charming. Like, we really mean it. It's a fabulous place to drink yourself dizzy with some delicious wine, and staffed with knowledgable and attentive bartenders. 

Their cozy fireplace is consistently stoked by one of their staff.

It's also a stellar spot to eat too. We love their procini mushroom mac'n cheese (how could we not?) and we're also all about their white beans on crostini.

Here's our major opinion when it comes to Black Mountain Wine House. When you just can't away to go to the mountains, this place is the next best thing. It also makes for an excellent date spot. Plus, we're clearly all about that fireplace though.

7. The Bowery Hotel Lobby Bar and Lounge (335 Bowery)

This lovely, centrally located spot is replete with piano music, a beautiful open terrace outdoors for warm nights, and a roaring fire to warm yourself up beside on cold ones.

What else? You'll be completely enamored by their Persian rugs, plush bar stools, and food from Gemma's menu. In other words, you'll be entirely transported to yesteryear.

The fireplace isn't the only spot we're all about here. We're very impressed by the style of this swanky bar. It's extremely classy, and it's a great place for you to bring a classy date. You'll be able to hear each other talk, lounge on the beautiful couches, and warm up beside the fire.

The place is usually packed with sexy people, and definitely makes you feel like you're right in the middle of the fold in glitzy NYC culture.
