Did you hear? The Mets made the playoffs this year, for the first time since 2006.
Of course you heard. Mets fans are notoriously loudmouthed, which is what you're relegated to when you're the less-successful little brother of the Yankees.
But now that they've actually made the playoffs, the noise is a little more appropriate than, say, back in July before they sweetened the roster at the trade deadline (#CespedesForTheRestOfUs).
Is there anything sweeter than winning the National League East and advancing to postseason action after many years of suffering, disappointment, and heartbreak? Even if nobody was sure whether Matt Harvey would grow up a bit and actually pitch in the playoffs? Short answer: no.
Flaky Dark Knight aside, there's a lot to be stoked for.
The Mets have a chance at knocking down the underachieving, wildly overpaid goons from out west. You might remember these turds from their epic postseason failures in recent memory: the Los Angeles Dodgers, a franchise that bowed out of contention last time the Mets made the playoffs.
New York City can be an unforgiving place sometimes. New Yorkers don't have short memories. We hold onto the pettiest of petty things for years on end, so of course we're going to put the Dodgers on blast, even if they have two of the best pitchers in the game in Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.
But we're not the first to start talkin' smack, and the first legitimately entertaining Twitter beef spewed forth from the unlikeliest, grimiest dredges of scum: Metro Los Angeles.
In a move that reminds us all of a self-loathing housewife in the Hills trying to occupy her thoughts with things other than her dying avocado tree or unsightly orange, leathery skin, @MetroLosAngeles kindly reminded us to clean up our room, so to speak, before they knock on our doors.
Thanks, L.A. You're a gem.
Shout out to Metro Los Angeles for knowing their way to Citi Field! Nothing says preparation like knowing your route to disappointment! For Dodgers fans that need something to make their cross-country trip actually worthwhile, here's a list of spots where you can drink away your sadness.
Now, we give the MTA a lot of grief, and deservedly so, but we're pretty happy that they mustered the strength to show any sign of life, even if it's as petty as a Twitter beef.
Of course, the spat has died down somewhat quickly, and we're thankful for that. Even if Metro Los Angeles did try to dump all over the beauty of one of NYC's most beloved, viral icons of the moment: Pizza Rat.
As if that were even an insult! What can your rats do, Los Angeles? Other than live in your houses, star in your movies, and suit up in Clippers, Lakers, Kings, and Angels uniforms. (Shout out to your highly successful NFL team! ...oh. Wait. Our bad.)
Of course, MTA riders didn't exactly appreciate the time and energy spent in this little spat, and rightfully so. Their "sweep" pun would fit better if New Yorkers didn't wake up every morning to find heavenly pieces of grossness on their commute.
While we can't speak to the condition of Los Angeles public transportation, we can definitely advise MTA to move on to more pressing matters, like, you know, figuring out their budget so our fares don't hike any higher.
To the MTA we say #NeverSurrender (unless, you know, it prevents you from improving our preferred method of transportation). To the Mets, go on and get some. You've earned it. To LA? Well, we're still confused as to why you even got into it with us.
It's always great when the social media accounts of the teams involved get down and dirty in some Twitter controversy, but on a list of users we'd ever expect to get into it, public transportation has got to be somewhere well below the bottom of the list.
