We love when New York City puts on really great, really free events. We think public participation is vital to what's sacred about this city, and getting an investment return on our tax dollars is pretty cool, too.
If you love fun, and you're not afraid to get a little cold and snowy, you're going to really like what we have to tell you. Just in time for the city's first major snowfall this weekend, NYC Parks is hosting NYC's ultimate snow day.
It's called Winter Jam, and it's taking place at Central Park's Bandshell this Saturday, January 23rd, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We're basically too excited to even talk about it, but here's what's going on: There will be every fun snow activity you can think of.
Oh, you want us to list the snow activities? Okay, we can do that.
There will be snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding, plus skiing and snowboarding lessons, kicksledding, and, well, regular sledding.

Yes, and because all this ripping powder (do people say that?) will stir up an appetite, there will be a Taste NY Winter Market with food vendors selling insanely delicious cuisine for your satisfaction and delight.
If you're skeptical because you're thinking, "But what if it actually doesn't snow?" You needn't fret. Gore Mountain is blowing in a lot of fresh snow to the bandshell, so Saturday's fun is not weather dependent.
There will be all of the necessary sports gear available to the public for free on a first-come, first-served basis. But if you have your own sled, skis, or snowboard, you can bring all that too.
patmilbery Last year at this time I wondered into Central Park and poached this Rock gap with NO permission. Crazy to think Only 1 year later, our whole @sognarofficial crew will be LEGALLY shredding New York City in Central Park for a FREE snowboard camp on Sat, Jan 25 for us to shred with the residents of the city. Can't wait to be back in #nyc, photo by @flashgarrison *_* #sognar #sognarworldtour #newyorkcity #winterjamnyc #snowboardcamptour #snowboarding #newyork #createordie #centralpark #exploremore
We're definitely going to be there because we're children at heart and we always will be. Plus, we love fun. We also appreciate that NYC repeatedly presents us with the opportunity to strip our adulthood and frolic around like we all really want.
Now, the only question left to answer is, will you be coming too?
