When you want a unique, gourmet, melt-in-your mouth burger in New York City, where do you go?

We head to Umami Burger for some of their insanely delicious meaty-cheesy combinations.

When you combine Umami Burger with Food Network celebrity chef Alton Brown, you receive a mammoth burger that is simply out of this world.

Alton Brown designed the aptly titled, "Alton Burger," available at Umami Burger now through April 24th... but what is it exactly?

Well, if you know anything about Alton Brown, you know it includes a lot of science and a heck of a lot of delicious elements to make a gastronomical explosion in your mouth.

The burger was created with the attempts to spike your umami senses, one of the five basic tastes apart from sweet, salty, bitter, and sour. Umami is basically the "je ne sais quoi" of the culinary world.

Technically, it's the taste that responds to glutamate elements in food. We're just going to go ahead and simplify things and say that umami basically refers to savory tastes.

The burger that Chef Alton Brown designed certainly hits the savory tastebuds with a beef patty mixed with bacon lardons (pork fat), cheddar cheese, miso-maple bacon strips, smashed cheesy tots, a perfectly fried egg, strips of fried sage, and coffee ketchup all sandwiched between a hefty bun.

It's the kind of breakfast burger that you literally have to taste to believe... so that's what we did.

As soon as we heard that we could order the "Alton Burger" from Umami Burger through Caviar, we were on that sh*t faster than a hipster on kale.

We ordered our burgers at 10:57 a.m. to be delivered between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

We instantly received a text message notification telling us our order was received, and we waited with rumbling tummies for the arrival of our burgers and fries.

At 1:09 p.m., we were notified that our burgers were on their way, and by 1:26 p.m., our burgers were in the lobby, waiting for us to devour them.

When we finally opened their little compostable box homes, it was like the gates of meaty heaven opened their bacon-y gates and embraced us with wafts of tantalizing cheese, pork, and perfectly cooked meat... apart from the boxes, you would never guess it was delivery.

So how did they taste? In one word: mind-blowing.

In more than one word: hands down, the best friggin' burger we've ever eaten.
