Getcha floaties ready!

When you're watching the fireworks this weekend, you know that's when it's really summer, right? Hate to break it to you, but, uh, you're wrong. Summer doesn't start with a bang. It starts with a splash.

Yes, the first cannonballs, jack knives and belly flops all mark the first day of a New York City summer. So, hope you got your trunks under your slacks because today is the day to dive right into the season.

NYC's 55 pools officially open today and they do not close until September 11th, so get ready to get swim, swim and swim some more this summer.

The pools are open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. you'll be able to join in some free activities like lessons for all age groups.

Residents of Staten Island are also reportedly getting a new indoor pool.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has set aside $50 million for a new indoor pool. Just another reason (of a million) why you shouldn't leave the city, Staten Island.

55 pools may seem like a lot, and it is. So, we found the best pools you gotta hit up this summer if you're looking to make a splash.

We want more to be frank, and we would love to see more unique pools like this pop-up pool in Brooklyn that may dry up soon, or even this rainbow pool out on Governor's Island.

So, just keep swimmin' NYC. Just keep swimmin'.
