This New Study Just Revealed Your $2.75 MetroCard Ride Really Costs $4.11

Well, if the MTA gets their hands on this study, it probably won't be good news for any of New York City's straphangers.

A shocking new study from Moody's Investor Services just revealed that your $2.75 MetroCard fare actually costs closer to $4.11. Gulp.

Why, you might ask? It simply comes down to the MTA's operating costs, which are much higher than even the transit-reliant cities of London and Paris.

A whooping 66% of the MTA's spending is due to its extremely high labor costs-- and if you don't believe us, read up on our story of the $876 million paid out in 2015 to MTA's workers here

Maybe we should take some advice from the aforementioned European cities' counterparts and ease up on those hefty MTA pensions and benefits, eh? (Wishful thinking, we know.)
