The Metropolitan Transit Authority announced Friday that the L train tunnel will temporarily shut down for repairs in 2019.
The authority needs to repair 56 miles of power, communication and signal cables, as well as nearly three miles of track and a water pump room, the New York Daily News reported.
Work will also include wider platforms for stations at Bedford Avenue and First Avenue, as well as new elevators.

The closure could last anywhere from 18 months to three years, according to the report.
The repairs are necessary for the Canarsie tunnel after it was blasted with corrosive salt water during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
Details on how the city will accommodate the 300,000 daily riders who take the train are still under development, officials told the paper.
