You know that guac is extra, but did you know that Chipotle is expanding to include a chain of burger restaurants?
According to USA Today, the franchise plans to open a chain of burger joints, likely to be called "Better Burger", in attempts to diversify their business.
Chipotle took a hit last year following an E. coli outbreak in several of its restaurants across the U.S. February was reported as their worst quarter yet, with net income falling 44% and same-store sales falling 14.6%.
Oof.
It seems that this expansion is an attempt to recover, but Chipotle might have difficulty breaking into the burger market, which has grown considerably in the U.S. in recent years.
Due to the success of restaurants like Five Guys and Shake Shack, the gourmet burger industry has pulled in around $73 billion in sales in 2014, and are responsible for 7.4% of restaurants in the country.
Perhaps this is Chipotle's ticket to redemption from the events of last year, you know, when everybody everywhere was poisoned.

Sure, maybe a burger is better than giving away free food forever until the world forgives, but who knows?
Regardless, it'll be interesting to see what burger creations they come up with.
